Engines today are much more complicated than they used to be before, if you look into your engine bay you’ll see that it is bristling with sensors that send information to the ECU (Engine Control Unit). The ECU drives the car with all the information it gets from various inputs coming in from the car’s sensors. The ECU is designed to reduce the number of moving parts, squeeze as much as efficiency and alerts in case of any malfunction in any system it is connected to.
The yellow engine light on your dashboard is the signal from your ECU that there is something wrong with your car and your ECU is alerting you about it. If your car can drive you should bring it to the shop, in most cases if the car drives just fine but still has the engine light on is usually due to a loose connection or a sensor malfunction.
The information generated from the ECU can be read by a special electronic device called the OBD reader. It is a handheld device which reads the error code generated by the ECU. Looking up the error code, one can determine the cause of the problem and rectify it.
At Savvas automotive, our workshop is equipped with OBD readers and we use advanced software to perform full engine diagnostics. In order to find the cause of problems with modern engines we can perform in-depth engine diagnostics that will generate report from all the sensors of the car like O2 sensors, MAP sensors, TPS, oil temperature sensor, intake and exhaust temperature, coolant temp sensor and myriad parameters to judge the fault or modification you wish to make to improve the performance of your engine.
